Description
This rare walnut seats belong to a particular type of chairs called sedile a pozzetto. It stands on a moulded plinth. The back of the seat is made of seven planks within a moulded frame. The armrest tops the chair, highlighted by a dentil frieze. Below the heptagonal seat is an open compartment.
Undoubtedly this sedile a pozzetto took place in an Italian studiolo. It embodies the transition between Medieval and Renaissance furniture. This piece testifies of a typical Florentine production, today very scarce. A similar model can be seen in Museo Horne, Florence.
