Description

This sideboard impresses with its fine proportions and the balance of its massive and strong shapes. The upper body comprises four panels and a central door. A drawer, also called yette, hangs from the sideboard’s main body. On each side both jambs end with finials. In total five panels ornated with blind arcatures enrich the sideboard’s belt. The lower body is posterior. It presents a plain back and stands on a moulded base.

The carved panels demonstrate the ornamental interest of the Flamboyant Gothic during the late 15th century. The deep reliefs of the arcatures with arches and ribs catching the light and playing with the shadows spread in a beautiful design on every panel as well as the belt. The lateral panels present a very delicate open-worked ornamentation treated almost as a wood lace.

The sideboard’s decor derives from Gothic architecture and embodies perfectly the horror vacui of the time.
