Description
The golden wood frame of this exceptional mirror is richly sculpted in volutes of interlacing flowers and acanthus leaves.
This decor is completed at each corner by four putti, representing the four seasons. Each putto therefore displays characteristics of each season. In the upper right corner, Spring is holding a bundle of wheat. Summer a bundle of flowers. Autumn, a bunch of grapes and a bowl of wine. Winter hooded and warming itself by a brazier.
At the center of the upper frame, a mascaron is sculpted with feminine and delicate features. On the pediment rests a putto playing the lyre.
This mirror is typical in the style and structure of the Baroque period near the end of the 17th century.
