Description

This beautiful, richly adorned Taquillón features two lower doors and two upper drawers. Its decorative elements play with the contrast of shadow and light, thanks to the sculpted and molded reliefs.

Each panel, centered around a lock, displays a flowered diamond motif framed by rectangles divided into smaller diamonds. The molded sections are adorned with painted ivory featuring floral patterns, standing out against a polychrome background dominated by green and framed with red. A gold border with interlaced designs completes the decoration of the drawers and doors.

The uprights and side posts of the chest are highlighted by friezes with diamond patterns embellished with painted floral motifs. A guilloche design decorates the corners.

The Taquillón, which can serve as a base for the Bargueño – the favorite piece of furniture of conquistadors and missionaries, though not exclusively – is also designed for portability, with wrought iron handles on its sides.

Here, as a ceremonial piece, it is structured in harmonious units that reflect its Hispano-Moorish soul.
