Description

This very beautiful polychrome sculpture represents Saint Anna trinitarian. Depicted as a young woman, Saint Anne, adorned with a flowing veil, holds the crowned Virgin Mary, portrayed as a child, and the infant Jesus in her right arm. Thus, three generations are united. She holds the Holy Book in her left hand, while Jesus, with his eyes lowered, reads his small open book.

The delicacy and the physiognomy of the faces, all imbued with gentleness, combined with the fineness and quality of the sculptor’s chisel in the meticulous pleating of the garments, are quite typical of Swabian sculpture from this period.
