Description
This credenza was presented during the ‘IVth Mostra Mercato Internazionale dell’ Antiquariato, Tesori d’Arte a Venezia, Palazzo Grassi, 11 ottobre – 2 novembre 1980’, page 264.
Our credenza, exhaling strength and sobriety, opens with two door-leaves and three drawers in the belt. The belt supports a thick overlapping top.
Standing on lion’s paw feet and gadrooned base this very elegant credenza draw its rhythm and decor from its shape and structure.
On each end a carved panel depicts sophisticated classic dolphins while the doors present a sobre facade punctuated with metalic knobs in each corners.
In the centre, between the two doors, a vertical motif of a flowery garland highlight this contrast between the door-leaves and the rest of the facade creating a balance.
The drawers show carved flowery frieze and open with drop handles.
This important and rare credenza is characteristic of Venitian production, among the most beautiful pieces made in northern Italy.
